  ধারণা করা হয় যে,  পুরান ঢাকার লক্ষীবাজারের দেখতে খুবই সাধারণ একটা বেকারি, সম্ভবত যেটা কিনা বর্তমানে চলমান দেশের সবচেয়ে পুরাতন ব্যবসা প্রতিষ্ঠান। অন্ততপক্ষে এটার বর্তমান মালিক এটাই দাবি করেন।  বর্তমান মালিকদের মতে এই বেকারি একজন ব্রিটিশ বেকারি ব্যবসায়ী প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন।   বর্তমান মালিক নুরুদ্দিন আহমেদের (৮০ কাছাকাছি বয়স) তথ্যানুযায়ী  "মি. ওয়েলস" ছিলেন এই প্রতিষ্ঠানের মূল মালিক এবং তিনি আরও বলেন যে ব্রিটিশ মালিক তার পিতা "বুদ্ধু মিয়া'র" কাছে ঢাকা ত্যাগ করার আগে ব্যবসা হস্তান্তর করেন। তখন থেকেই বুদ্ধু মিয়ার পরিবার বিখ্যাত সেন্ট গ্রেগরী গির্জার কাছাকাছি লক্ষ্মীবাজারে এই বেকারিটি পরিচালনা করে আসছেন, এবং মুখরোচক পেস্ট্রি, কেক, বাটার বন্, ক্রিম রোলস এবং হাজার হাজার গ্রাহকদের জন্য বিভিন্ন ধরনের বিস্কুটের বিক্রি করে আসছেন। এর কিছু ব্যতিক্রমি আইটেম শহরের অন্যান্য আধুনিক বেকারি থেকে আলাদা। এই বেকারি প্রথম ঢাকায় বিবাহের এবং ক্রিসমাসের জন্য কেক তৈরী করত। তাদের বেশিরভাগ এক্সক্লুসিভ বেকারি আইটেম যেমন জ্যাম ট্যাক্স, লাভ লেটার এন্ড চীজ কেকগুলি ডিসেম্বর ও জানুয়ারী মাসে...
